The innovation blind spot: what parametric design can teach us about building better teams

About this talk

Parametric design teaches us that better outcomes emerge when we explore a wider range of possibilities, challenge assumptions, and discover unexpected solutions. Yet while we optimise our models to generate diverse options, we often build teams and organisations from surprisingly similar perspectives. Why don't we approach innovation in the same way? Drawing on experiences from computational design, digital fabrication, innovation leadership, and community building, this talk explores how diversity of perspectives expands the solution space for organisations just as it does for algorithms. Through stories of collaboration across disciplines, cultures, and backgrounds, it reveals how some of the most valuable innovations emerge from unexpected combinations of people and ideas. As technology becomes increasingly accessible, perspective may become the most valuable competitive advantage. A reflection on creativity, collaboration, and the innovation blind spots that can limit what our industry is capable of achieving
